“Who gave us the tip?”, Edgar’s muffled voice droned through the vox grill. “Dunno… ‘Fredriq the snitch’ maybe.”, Dieter groaned while shifting a large crate. They’d been searching for about ten minutes, but the promised stash didn’t seem to be here. Still hive scum knew how to hide what they didn’t want found.
The scream and explosion of a mass reactive round snapped them from their task. “It’s the Zetas again”, Edgar yelled, drawing his pistols. Another shot from a different direction sounded. “We’re surrounded… it’s an ambush! Move. Move. Move.”, he shouted into the vox bead, both pistols raising to cover different approaches. The Deltas dropped what they were doing and instantly formed into a cover and move formation. More shots, but so far no casualties.
Edgar sprinted once the immediate area had been cleared by his team. He rounded a corner, but two almost instantaneous thuds stopped him in his tracks. One had connected with his right arm, the other his helmet. The ringing in his right ear was deafening. He hadn’t even realised he’d fallen when Dieter appeared, his large shield held protectively over Edgar. Someone else he couldn’t see was dragging him away. He was hurt, he could feel warm blood seeping between flak armour plates. The Zetas would pay for this. Vengeance was the last thought before blacking out.
Last night saw the start of our Necromunda campaign. I’m using corrupted Enforcers, which is pretty interesting… they have been seduced by the promises of the Four-armed Emperor. Game 1 was against Justin’s Enforcers with an Ambush happening in the tunnels. I was the ambushee! We have a narrative that his Enforcers suspect mine of being on the take, so take any opportunity to disrupt and discredit them. This was a fun mission, but the narrow board (we used the boarding action mats) made my escape a little too easy. Justin still managed to take my dual pistol wielding Palatine Sergeant out!
After that short game we re-racked and played again, this time a non-campaign game. Continuing the narrative we started with our captains almost toe to toe, imaging my captain calling his out for the cowardly and callous ambush.
This was a fun game with plenty of action. We had a fun scrap between the captains and then Justin’s boltguns definitely taught me how dangerous it was to give them clean shots!
There was a good buzz down the club last night. Looking forward to continuing the Necromunda campaign – I think campaign play is one of the big benefits of having a steady club. Long may it continue.
Until next time,
Owen
