My Flames of War Panzer Lehr force is growing in size, so I decided to take a few minutes to take some pictures. I have loads of things to paint, but an armoured heavy mortar platoon is probably next on my list.

figs look great. how do you like using the army painter heavy shade on the figs?
Thanks Dave. I like the dark shade fine. I’ve only painted it on. ‘Painting’ isn’t quite the right term – it’s globbed on. This creates severe shading which is appropriate for 15mm miniatures that will be mostly seen at arms length. I considered Tamiya Smoke, but I don’t like the way it flows (more suited to metallics). The miracle wash (1:1 Citadel Devlan Mud and Badab Black) would work well too. You wouldn’t need white spirit to clean the brush either with the wash.
You have to be careful with dark shade on the smooth surfaces of the vehicles. Other than that it’s good (apart from the price!).
